The Great Christmas Tree Hunt took place the Sunday after Thanks-giving at Wagon Landing Tree Farm which would normally be a 15-minute drive from our house, but took us a good half hour. According to the professional mapmaker in our household: "the map sucked". Nevertheless, we arrived and trekked out into the field of evergreens bracing ourselves against the cold wind in search of "the one". It seemed the perfect height at the tree farm and we felt good about our choice as we drove home (not getting lost) with our bounty strapped to the roof of the minivan. Alas, when we arrived home we discovered that the trunk of our beautiful tree was too thick for our very old tree stand so Kevin took to it with the saw. Still too thick. Kevin headed off to buy a more accommodating tree stand, some eggnog and some rum. Now our tree stands in the family room with a good two feet of headspace. All the more room for a gigantic tree topper, my dear.
