Wild Child

Our little genius has taken to wearing a bucket (helmet) on his head :-)
He also really enjoys watching hockey with his daddy - he recognizes the Wild anthem "State of Hockey" and gets a big kick when daddy records the song on his microphone so he can play it over and over and over...go Wild!

Breaking in the sled!

Mateo loves the sled Grandma and Grandpa gave him - we broke it in a couple of days ago after a new layer of snow. Lucy (not pictured)tries to pull Mateo's mittens off as we travel around the yard :-)

back to Christmas, part 2

A few more photos from Christmas-time...

On Christmas Eve day Mateo is getting the hang of this present thing and is now seeking some out (along with cousin Justice) underneath the big tree at Grandpa and Grandma Meyer's; and by Christmas Day he is an old pro tearing open any gift set in front of him - balls were among his favorites.

back to Christmas

A couple of pics from Christmastime at the farm...

one with Grandma Karen (Mateo is all bundled up to check out the bonfire!) and another with cousins Reggie and Justice giving Mateo an education in gift-opening :-)

Buzz

"He needs a haircut."

It's one of those opinions people have been sharing freely. Personally, I kind of liked the rock star look Mateo was sporting. He had a toddler mullet happening a couple of months ago which was less acceptable, prompting me to get out the scissors to do some trimming on the back, ever thankful for the little bit of "wave" in his hair that helped hide my inexperience. But as of late his hair had been flopping over his ears and into his eyes - little did I know how upsetting this is to some folks. My stylist recommended waiting to get his first "real" haircut until he could "sit still with a lollipop". That could be years! So today I got out the trimmer and buzzed away: fearful at first, then "oh, that's not bad", then cringing somewhere in the middle (what have I done?!), and finally coming to realize that he is (of course) still quite cute.
He does look older - no wonder I was procrastinating - but that's inevitable, right? He'll always be our little potato.

Happy New Year!

The holidays snuck up on us, and fled just as fast. Given that, it seems unusual that we had a couple of quiet moments at home for reflection. But we did and we're grateful for that - there was much to think about. The loss of a grandma, the loss of an aunt's mother, a family friend's battle with cancer, a colleague's partner's battle with cancer - sobering thoughts that help put things in perspective. And happier times, too - our year with Mateo: the trip to Guatemala, our first meeting, his "welcome home" parties, his re-adoption, his first birthday, his first Christmas with us, all those teeth, all that growth, becoming mobile, all those milestones - wow! Not to mention memorable times with family and friends - we are undeniably fortunate.

Speaking of Mateo and his speedy growth, we've decided to create this blog so those who don't see him very often (whether challenged by busy-ness, geography, hibernation, or what-have-you) and those who simply want to see his adorable little face with the click of a mouse, can keep up with his goings-on. (Kev and I might include our goings-on as well, but rest assured we're not kidding ourselves - we know who you're really interested in!)
